The proposal was not put to a vote following the decision by opposition groups, PSPV, Compromís, and Vox, to defer the matter. This step is considered essential by the governing team to sign the agreement and launch the intervention.
The planned action affects 17 plots with a total area of 58,295.37 square meters in the Om Blanc area, a space located between the residential area of the beach and the Serrallo industrial estate. The objective is to create a green transition zone that helps reduce the visual and environmental impact of this environment.
“"It is a purely technical collaboration agreement, jointly prepared by municipal and Generalitat technicians. An agreement that looks after the interests of Almassora residents."
The mayor of Almassora defended the agreement as purely technical and jointly prepared by municipal and Generalitat technicians, regretting this lost opportunity to improve residents' quality of life. She also criticized the timing of the postponement request, made only 20 minutes before the plenary session, despite information being available for almost a month.
Plenary approval was a necessary requirement for the City Council to sign the agreement with the regional administration and formally activate the project. The plan for Om Blanc and the Serrallo area includes the regeneration of the plots, involving soil collection and transport, demolition of existing buildings, and waste management.
The plan also includes a preliminary study on the ecological suitability of the area and the selection of appropriate plant species for environmental regeneration, to be carried out by the Center for Forest Research and Experimentation (CIEF). With this action, the Council proposes a green strip to serve as a transition between the industrial front and the rest of the municipality, improving the landscape and mitigating the impact of the industrial estate on the residential beach area.
In the same ordinary session in April, two other proposals were approved: one to guarantee the future of the municipal residence for the elderly within the public system and another to promote local associative fabric. The municipal corporation also acknowledged the resignation of a PSPV councilor, whose contribution was appreciated.
