The Benicàssim City Council has initiated the awarding of the project to extend the CV-149 to the urban center, with an investment of 157,200 euros, aiming to improve mobility and relieve traffic congestion on the N-340 and Gran Avenida Jaume I.

After several years of phased advancements, Benicàssim is finally moving forward with the project that will complete the extension of the CV-149 to the urban center. The awarding of this contract, valued at 157,200 euros, represents a reduction of almost 43,000 euros from the initial tender budget of 200,000 euros. This section is crucial for alleviating traffic on the N-340 and Gran Avenida Jaume I.
The procedure is in its final phase, after the contracting board deemed the documentation submitted by the proposed awarding company sufficient and adequate. The firm Comaypa was the highest-rated of the three bids submitted, with 86 points, ahead of Atrio 31 and Ideas y Futuro Ingeniería. In addition to the economic improvement, Comaypa's proposal reduces the planned deadlines, committing to draft the project in six months and process the necessary separate documents in two months, thus accelerating the development of this action.
The future connection does not start from scratch, as the extension of the CV-149 is a large-scale project that the municipality has been executing in stages for years. In 2021, the route reached the Mohino avenue roundabout, improving the connection with Castelló, and a provisional link was subsequently enabled to relieve traffic on the Gran Avenida during peak season months. However, the pending section, which is now being planned, is the most complex and decisive, as it will directly connect the CV-149 with the urban center via Ferrocarril avenue.
The main objective is to reduce traffic jams on the N-340 and Gran Avenida Jaume I, especially during high season and festivals, when traffic volume significantly increases. The project will define a road approximately 25 meters wide, prepared for its future integration into the boulevard planned in the urban development. It will include a roadway, wide sidewalks, a bike lane, parking areas, and spaces for public transport, with accessibility and urban integration criteria.
The drafting of the project will be crucial, as it must specify the most delicate actions of the entire extension. These include land expropriations, the construction of new roundabouts, the reorganization of accesses, and the resolution of sensitive points along the route. One of the most relevant elements will be the intervention in the area around the Sigalero ravine, where the construction of a new crossing is planned, as well as the dismantling of the current bridge in the Gimeno Tomás area, as part of the road network reconfiguration. The City Council already acquired 8,417 m² of land in this area, a necessary operation to advance this connection. Once the project drafting is completed, the works will be put out to tender.
