The City Council of La Vila Joiosa has announced the development of the Vía Parque, an ambitious infrastructure project that will include a new bridge over the Amadorio River and require an investment of 31 million euros. Mayor Marcos Zaragoza presented the study and preliminary design for this new road, which will be 1,150 meters long and feature a roadway, sidewalks over 5 meters wide, a bike lane, and green areas.
This new road axis is planned for the north of the municipality, connecting Avenida de l’Alfàs del Pi (PP‑23, Gasparot area) with PP‑4, near the company Chocolates Valor. The project is based on a preliminary study that will serve as the foundation for the final design, scheduled for 2027. According to Zaragoza, this road "will better organize the entire urban fabric of the municipality".
The route, covering an area of 33,594 m², will be 30 meters wide in the first two sections and 20 meters wide on the viaduct. It will be designed as an urban boulevard with two lanes in each direction, a landscaped median, a bike lane, and a healthy pedestrian path, prioritizing pedestrians with sidewalks ranging from 5.70 to 8.70 meters.
The preliminary design includes three key infrastructures: a second bridge over the Amadorio River (100 meters long, 20 meters wide, and 16 meters free height), a crossing over the Arquet ravine to structure the expansion of PP‑10, and an overpass over the railway line connecting Els Plans with the new roundabout of IES Marcos Zaragoza, thereby activating sectors PP‑9 and PP‑10.
Zaragoza emphasized the "primary structural necessity" of this project, recalling that Villajoyosa already exceeds 40,000 inhabitants and is constrained by the river's "natural barrier," with the only current crossing under renovation. The Vía Parque, included in the PGOU since 1999, is essential for mobility, traffic redistribution, and road safety.
Sector PP‑4 will be executed through direct municipal management with an investment of 4.5 million euros starting in 2027, planning for the construction of 1,500 homes, 14,000 m² of green spaces, 4,000 m² of educational facilities, and a 4,000 m² park-and-ride facility. This sector will also include a storm tank and an inflatable park to prevent flooding, diverting the flow of the Refoio ravine towards the Amadorio River via a new underground collector.
The mayor stressed that the project is a "city strategy" that the government team will bring to reality. The total estimated investment is 31 million euros, with execution planned in three phases. The project will be drafted with municipal funds, but Zaragoza indicated the need to seek external co-financing, stating "we cannot go it alone," and that the Generalitat has shown willingness to study its financial participation. The goal is to set a start date for construction in 2028.
