Today marked the signing of the works reception for the new Day Center and CEAC in Gata de Gorgos, a 3.4 million euro facility, yet the Generalitat still owes 864,118 euros and staffing commitments are pending.

Today was a historic day for Gata de Gorgos with the signing of the reception act for the new Day Center and Active Aging Center (CEAC). This infrastructure, long-awaited by the municipality, has had a total investment of 3,400,000 euros and is prepared to serve 40 people in situations of dependency.
However, the completion of the works comes with two major uncertainties. The first is the debt that the Conselleria de Serveis Socials (Department of Social Services) owes the council, currently amounting to 864,118 euros. This continued delay in payments is creating an unsustainable financial burden for the Gata City Council, which has to advance the money for the works.
The second issue, present since the project's inception, is the lack of clarity from the regional administration regarding the center's equipment and, above all, the staffing necessary for its operation. The fear is that this much-needed infrastructure for the residents could become an 'empty container' if these points are not urgently resolved.
The city council is calling for immediate responsibility from the conselleria to settle the outstanding debt and urgently define the staffing, so that the service can fulfill its social function as soon as possible.
