The Municipal Market of Dénia (Marina Alta) is commemorating 71 years of activity with a celebration highlighting local culinary tradition and commerce under the slogan “71 years of daily trust with you”. The festivities run from May 21st to May 23rd.
One of the highlights of the celebration is the second edition of the Figatell Fest, taking place on Saturday, May 23rd. Local chef Belén Escrivà, from La Xerna del Mar, has presented a seafood figatell made with regional ingredients, including cuttlefish purchased directly from the market. "It includes local ingredients, cuttlefish from our own fish market, bought at the market. The typical ingredients for cuttlefish in picada, a bit of garlic, parsley...", Escrivà explained.
As part of the events, the market's bakers and pastry chefs have prepared and distributed around 300 free pastries to mark the occasion. Additionally, special prices have been offered on various products. Fishmonger Antonia Puig noted that white shrimp, usually sold between 16 and 18 euros, is available for 6 euros during this period.
This gastronomic initiative aims to fill Dénia with food, recipes, and tradition, reinforcing the market's role as a hub of local life and a space for celebrating regional culinary heritage.
