The fire declared this Friday on the second floor of Torrevieja Hospital was extinguished at 7:00 PM, leaving one patient with severe burns and another admitted to the ICU.

The fire, which broke out this Friday on the second floor of Torrevieja Hospital, was finally extinguished at 7:00 PM, after several hours of intervention by firefighters and ventilation efforts in the affected area. The blaze resulted in one patient with second and third-degree burns, transferred to the Burns Unit at La Fe Hospital in València, and another person admitted to the ICU with a reserved prognosis due to smoke inhalation.
The alert was received at 12:09 PM. Following the activation of the Evacuation Plan, the floor was cleared, and five fire crews from Torrevieja and Orihuela were mobilized. Shortly before 2:00 PM, the fire was brought under control, although a team remained at the hospital to continue expelling smoke and gases.
The Minister of Health, Marciano Gómez, explained that, according to initial investigations, a technical origin is ruled out, and everything points to a possible human factor as the cause of the fire. Gómez thanked the hospital professionals and firefighters for their work, highlighting that the rapid activation of emergency protocols prevented more serious consequences.
During the emergency, ten workers, including healthcare, security, and cleaning staff, were treated for smoke inhalation. Additionally, one person remains in the intensive care unit with a reserved prognosis for the same reason. The minister praised the efforts of all professionals, particularly noting the contribution of an auxiliary nursing care technician.
Appointments located on the second floor scheduled for this Friday have been suspended. Activity in Radiology is expected to resume on Monday, while the Rehabilitation area will remain closed on both Monday and Tuesday.
