The Ministry of Education and unions failed to reach an agreement in their latest meeting, leading teachers in the Valencian Community, including Marina Alta, to an indefinite strike starting in May.

The meeting between the Ministry of Education and union organizations, aimed at resolving the conflict in education, concluded without any agreement. This situation is pushing teachers towards an indefinite strike that will begin in May, right at the end of the academic year.
Unions expressed their indignation at the lack of concrete proposals and firm commitments from the Generalitat. The Ministry's only promise was to continue studying with the Ministry of Finance a budgetary modification to improve teachers' salary conditions, with no possibility of applying this improvement during the current academic year.

"The meeting with the Ministry was a «meaningless pantomime», marked «by the lack of concrete proposals and an attitude of disrespect towards education workers»."

Other teacher demands, such as reducing class sizes, improving school architecture to adapt to climate change, and preserving Valencian, were not even discussed during the meeting. Now, unions will decide the details of the mobilizations through surveys and assemblies in each center, including those in Marina Alta, where protest participation has been massive.
For its part, the Ministry of Education valued its department's «dialoguing spirit», stating that «for the first time in eleven years, the assessment of the teaching situation is on the table because it matters to us and we are going to improve it». The Ministry again justified its refusal to raise the salaries of public education professionals this academic year, citing the number of teachers reached in the Valencian Community.
