A wild goat that had been in Dénia's urban area for over 24 hours has been shot dead in the castle's quarry area, following a capture operation that ended with the animal being shot.

The animal, which had been sighted in various parts of the city for a day and a half, seemed to have taken refuge all morning in the area of the old castle quarry, a rocky space with vegetation that resembled its natural habitat. It is believed that the wild goat might have descended from the mountain seeking water and was unable to find its way back.
The Dénia City Council contacted the Ministry of Environment to launch a capture operation. Personnel from Vaersa, a public company dependent on the ministry, along with the Dénia Local Police, who secured the safety perimeter, participated in the operation. Specialists were equipped with nets and tranquilizer darts, with shooting the animal as a last resort due to potential serious danger.
Around 1:30 PM, after other options proved unsuccessful, several shots were heard, ending the wild goat's life. Shortly after, the animal's body was removed from the area in a van.
