The DGT anticipates a total of 13,757,568 journeys on the roads of the Valencian Community during the two summer months, a figure representing a 3.7% increase compared to the previous year. The first special operation, starting Friday at 3:00 PM and concluding on Sunday, July 5th, expects around 627,000 journeys.
This operation coincides with the start of the summer season and combines July's travel with usual weekend movements, leading to a significant increase in traffic on main routes exiting urban centers and heading towards tourist destinations. During Sunday's return, traffic jams are expected towards urban areas.
The Government Delegation has reminded that the Special Operation for Crossing the Strait is also underway. The phases of the Summer Operation 2026 run from June 15th to August 15th (outbound) and from July 15th to September 15th (return), particularly affecting the Mediterranean Corridor (A-7 and AP-7).
The Government delegate, Pilar Bernabé, has called for driver prudence, emphasizing the importance of respecting speed limits, maintaining safe distances, avoiding mobile phone use, and correctly using seat belts and child restraint systems. She also highlighted the need for rest every two hours on long journeys and maintaining zero tolerance for alcohol and drugs at the wheel.
Traffic management is reinforced with special operations to facilitate mobility and improve road safety, especially on weekends and the first days of each month. The Summer Operation 2026 includes four major operations: July 3rd-5th, July 31st-August 2nd, August 14th-16th, and August 28th-31st.
As a novelty, this year includes specific planning to manage mobility during the total solar eclipse on August 12th, which is expected to generate significant movements towards areas with optimal viewing conditions, leading to concentrations of vehicles and people.
The peak traffic days and hours for this first phase will be Friday, July 3rd (4 PM-9 PM), Saturday (8 AM-2 PM), and Sunday, July 5th (4 PM-9 PM). The most problematic stretches are located in Alicante (A-70, N-332, access roads to Altea, El Altet, Santa Pola, and Torrevieja), Castellón (CV-13, AP-7/N-340 junction in Torreblanca), and Valencia (A-3, A-7/A-3, N-332, Gandia bypasses, access roads to Tavernes, Cullera, and the CV-500).
