With 109 days remaining until the astronomical event, astronomers are already working on site to determine the best observation spots. In Macastre, they have analyzed whether the surrounding mountains will allow the phenomenon to be viewed under optimal conditions.
Specialists, equipped with manual instruments and mobile applications, are searching for the exact position of the sunset on that day. An astronomer from the University of Valencia has indicated that the sun will set precisely on the horizon, and has confirmed that the eclipse will graze the mountain, being visible just above the profile.
The Macastre Castle, of Moorish origin, is one of the locations from which visibility is being studied, although uncertainties remain due to the proximity of the mountainous terrain. Meanwhile, many residents of the municipality are still unaware of the magnitude of this event, which will coincide with local festivities and the cultural year.
“"It gives us a bit of vertigo, but when we made the proposal, we had already assessed the logistics."
According to the National Geographic Institute, the eclipse will reach its peak at 8:33 PM, at which point a strip of the territory will be in partial shadow. Experts warn that, to experience the total eclipse under the best conditions, one will have to make an effort to find the right spot.
