The Civil Guard and the Tax Agency intercepted a 29-year-old Mexican national at Valencia Airport in Manises as he attempted to smuggle 4 kilograms of cocaine into the city. The traveler, who arrived on a flight from Mexico with a layover in Barajas, has been remanded in provisional detention, accused of a public health offense.
The incident occurred when airport agents, who monitor international connection flights, randomly identified the passenger. When asked about the purpose of his trip and if he had anything to declare at Customs, the suspect stated that he was visiting for tourism and had nothing to declare.
However, upon scanning the suitcase with an X-ray machine, agents from the UDAIFF and the Civil Guard's Fiscal and Border Section detected organic matter plates at the bottom of the luggage. During the search of the baggage, conducted in the suspect's presence, it was confirmed that the suitcase had been tampered with to create a false bottom.
Inside this false bottom, brick-shaped packages were concealed, plastic-wrapped, and containing a pressed white powder. After applying a narcotics reagent, the result was positive for cocaine. The total weight of the substance amounted to 4,000 grams, leading to the passenger's arrest.
After being brought before the court, the judge of Court Number 3 of the Civil and Instruction Section of the Quart de Poblet Tribunal ordered his provisional imprisonment, without bail, as the alleged perpetrator of a drug trafficking offense.
