The community of Puçol has mobilized to support Jurek, a 10-year-old boy suffering from a rare bone disease, with the aim of funding costly operations that will allow him to grow 15 centimeters.

Since the age of three, Jurek has undergone eight surgical interventions due to a disease affecting his bones and hindering his growth. Now, he faces a crucial new stage with two operations scheduled in Warsaw, Poland, the only place in Europe where a specialist dares to perform an innovative treatment.
The first intervention, planned for 2026, aims to lengthen his femur by five centimeters. If successful, a second operation in 2028 would allow for an additional five centimeters of growth in both the femur and tibia, totaling fifteen centimeters of growth.

"It is very, very expensive, and it is already the eighth operation, but, at the same time, he is the only specialist who dares to try something new, because the others do not dare."

Carolina Gnacinska · Jurek's Mother
Jurek's disease is so uncommon that there are no precedents or established treatments, and the lack of collagen production in his bones causes his body to deform with growth. His parents, Carolina Gnacinska and Jaime Carreras Sanfélix, have invested over 200,000 euros in previous operations and are now seeking support to cover future expenses, which include a two-month stay in Warsaw for each intervention.
To channel aid, the family has created the association «El sueño de Jurek» (Jurek's Dream). The Colegio Virgen al Pie de la Cruz, where Jurek studies, and the Puçol City Council are actively collaborating in the dissemination and organization of solidarity events. Several initiatives are already underway, such as the presentation of the association at the Gran Fondo Vila de Puçol on April 10 at the Espai Social La Barraca, and participation at the finish line of the race on April 12. Activities such as assisted diving at the Puçol Municipal Pool on May 17 with 8ctoPuçol, an event at The Box gym on May 30, and solidarity football tournaments with UD Puçol and Fut7even during the summer have also been scheduled.
