The Commonwealth of l'Horta Nord has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding with the Comunidade Intermunicipal Região Beiras e Serra da Estrela (CIMRBSE) in Guarda, Portugal, on April 21, to enhance its European presence.

This agreement represents a significant step in the internationalization of the region, establishing a stable framework for cooperation. The main objective is to facilitate the acquisition of European resources and the development of joint policies with international partners, thereby consolidating the Commonwealth's position in the European sphere.
The Commonwealth's delegation, led by the European Projects representative, traveled to Portugal for the signing. This collaboration is not new, as both entities are already actively involved in the European project SPARK, funded by the Interreg Europe program, focusing on improving urban mobility. The success of this prior experience has been key to extending cooperation to other strategic areas.

"This agreement strengthens the Commonwealth's positioning as an active player in the European arena. We are demonstrating that, from local government, we can generate solid international alliances that allow us to access more resources and develop projects with real impact in our municipalities."

The agreement is based on the similar legal nature of both entities and their European vocation. CIMRBSE brings together fifteen Portuguese municipalities, while the Commonwealth of l'Horta Nord integrates ten Valencian localities, all focused on providing joint services and promoting sustainable development. A coordination body will be created with semi-annual meetings to monitor progress and design new applications for European Union programs.
The alliance also seeks knowledge exchange in areas such as tourism, public service management, and social cohesion. The European Projects representative emphasized the value of these international allies, stating that it allows for improving project quality, expanding experience, and increasing the chances of obtaining European funding, serving as a key tool for growth in this area.
