The Municipal Group of Compromís in the Castelló City Council has denounced "the abandonment of public policies on sexual and gender diversity" promoted during progressive governments, lamenting that the city's Pride event has been reduced to "a mere party".

Compromís councilwoman Vera Bou recalled that Castelló was a pioneer with the approval of the I Municipal LGTBI+ Plan 2021-2025, a strategic tool for advancing towards a more inclusive city. However, she denounced that since the entry of PP and Vox into the municipal government, no annual follow-up report has been produced, nor have the planned measures been effectively implemented.
Compromís has also criticized that the II Municipal LGTBIQ+ Plan has yet to be released and that the preliminary diagnosis on the situation of LGTBIQ+ people in the city remains hidden from the public. Furthermore, there is uncertainty about the future of the UDIS (Unit for Diversity and Social Inclusion), a service they consider fundamental for the care and support of the community.
For the councilwoman, the municipal government has replaced public policies with "a strategy based on pinkwashing". "Beyond organizing one-off events during Pride month and taking the corresponding photo, there is no real, sustained, and brave commitment to defending LGTBIQ+ rights or to fighting discrimination," she denounced.
Bou asserted that Pride "is not just a celebration, but above all a demand". "The right attempts to turn Pride into a mere party devoid of political content and collective memory. But Pride is born from the struggle for rights, from resistance against discrimination, and from the demand for real equality," she stated.
Despite this institutional neglect, the councilwoman highlighted the strength of the city's LGTBIQ+ associative and cultural movement. Compromís attended yesterday the presentation of the second issue of Blendy magazine, a benchmark for the visibility of the community. This edition highlights the trajectory of individuals like Isaac Sempere and Pau Obiol, as well as the figure of Vicent Castell, contributing to preserving the memory of key people for a freer society.
Additionally, this week saw the inauguration of the new headquarters of Queer Castelló, a space created with the aim of becoming a meeting point for activism, culture, and mutual support for the city's LGTBIQ+ population.
