The Paterna City Council has recently requested the Ministry of Housing to declare the city a stressed residential market area, a key measure to strengthen public housing policies and ensure affordable prices for its residents.
The mayor of Paterna, Juan Antonio Sagredo, noted that this request responds to the current situation of the residential market in the city. Paterna leads the rental demand in the Valencian Community and has experienced strong demographic growth in recent years, exceeding 78,000 inhabitants, which increases pressure on housing.

"This request responds to the current situation of the residential market in the city, which leads the rental demand in the Valencian Community and which, in recent years, has been experiencing strong demographic growth, with more than 78,000 inhabitants, a population development that increases pressure on housing."
The declaration as a stressed area not only acknowledges the current situation but also entails the obligation to design a specific action plan with concrete measures. These measures will be aimed at correcting the imbalance between supply and demand, especially in the rental market.
Sagredo highlighted that Paterna is a dynamic and continuously growing city. This declaration will allow the implementation of measures to act on the rental market, including price containment mechanisms and incentives, with special emphasis on large property owners. The objective is to promote lower rental prices and facilitate access to housing, especially for young people and families.
With this declaration, and although housing competence is regional, the City Council seeks to implement concrete solutions through a comprehensive housing plan. This plan will reinforce the measures already promoted by the council, including the new Municipal Housing Office and the development of new protected housing promotions, with more than 2,000 Public Protection Homes (VPP) projected on the grounds of the former Daoiz y Velarde barracks.

"From the Paterna City Council, we will continue to promote all necessary initiatives to ensure that our city remains an accessible place to live, work, and be happy."
