The Generalitat Valenciana has initiated a crucial phase for the comprehensive recovery of the Turia Natural Park, with an investment of three million euros to reconstruct the 27-kilometer cycle-pedestrian route that connects the region.

This project aims to restore one of València's metropolitan area's most valuable natural assets, following the damage caused by the flood. The route will allow passage along the riverbank through twelve municipalities, solidifying this green lung as the preferred connection axis between the capital and inland towns, such as Vilamarxant and Riba-roja de Túria.

"This action is the pillar of a much broader shock plan, valued at 21.5 million euros, whose objective is not simply to return to the state prior to the DANA, but to improve the resilience of the entire ecosystem."

During a meeting with representatives from the central government and affected municipalities, the importance of adapting engineering to the river's behavior was highlighted. For this reason, the route's physiognomy will change significantly to prevent future water surges from causing the same level of destruction. Traditional bridges that were swept away will be replaced by floodable fords, and five new footbridges will be built: three suitable for vehicles and two reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, specifically designed to better withstand the force of the current.
Safety and sustainability also mark the future of the park's service infrastructures. A clear example is the Interpretation Center, which, after being devastated by the flood, has been demolished with an initial investment of over one hundred eleven thousand euros. The new facilities will be projected outside the riverbed to avoid unnecessary risks, serving meanwhile as an operations base for the brigades working on environmental regeneration. This effort is in addition to the nearly one hundred eighty actions already completed that have allowed for flora sanitation, native fauna protection, and restoration of degraded areas. The great river route is expected to be passable again in the coming weeks, following coordination with the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation.
Beyond the technical work, the rebirth of the well-known Turia River Green Route has a profound social and economic component for the riverside municipalities. By restoring the possibility of uninterrupted transit from València to Pedralba, through the connection with the Ruta de la Pea, a source of health and well-being is reactivated for thousands of families who find their main contact with nature on this low-difficulty path. According to the Consell, this project is a fundamental tool for retaining population and boosting the local economy, offering a space for interaction and sport that is especially therapeutic for communities that experienced the impact of the flood firsthand.
