The Film Academy Summer Campus 2026, an initiative aimed at directors with projects focused on the inclusion of diversity in Spanish cinema, has selected the eight projects that will be part of its fifth edition. This event will take place from June 21 to July 4 in València and is a collaboration with Netflix and supported by the City Council of the Turia capital.
After evaluating the 115 projects submitted, the selection committee chose proposals that best address diversity in the cinematographic field. This time, six fiction feature films have been selected: Adoptadas, by Xiaomei Espiro Roselló; Campeona, by Lucía Valverde; Cupido y otros arqueros, by Erik Rodríguez Fernández; Dame tu libertad, by Salva Martos Cortés; and La Primavera, by Jorge Castrillo. Additionally, the committee also selected La mujer de hierro, by Valencian filmmaker Nacho Ruipérez.
These titles are joined by the fiction series Morbo, by Valencian filmmaker Ana Nirvana, and Una ventana, by Mariamu Toure Goumane. On the other hand, Mientras sea verano, by Marta Romero; Ratas, by Jelen García; Set fanecaes i mitja, by Irene Klein Fariza; and Una ilusión perfecta, by Jose Luis Algar, are the four proposals that have been placed on reserve.
The selection committee was composed of Rafael Portela, vice-president of the Film Academy; Teresa Cebrián, president of the Valencian Audiovisual Academy; Beatriz Álvarez Gallardo, Head of Global Affairs for Netflix Spain and Portugal; Salima Jirari, audiovisual projects consultant specializing in diversity; the Observatory of Diversity in Audiovisual Media (ODA); casting director Ana Sainz-Trápaga; and filmmakers and former Campus participants Marc Ortiz, Sandra Reina, and Beatriz Mbula.
The fifth edition of the Summer Campus will begin on June 21 in València, where, for two weeks, the selected directors will receive training, mentorship, advice, and practical instruction to deepen the representation of diversity in their projects. Additionally, open sessions will be organized for the public to reflect on the role of cinema as a tool to eliminate stereotypes and promote social inclusion.
