The Reino de València-Duque de Calabria commission was the last to announce its artist, Sergio Musoles, for the 2027 Fallas. This announcement completes the roster for the Special Section, a category that has presented significant challenges this year in finding artists.
The difficulty in completing the list is due to several factors, such as the decision of some artists to voluntarily leave the top category, as was the case with Paco Torres at Plaza del Pilar and Salva Banyuls and Néstor Ruiz at Exposición. Additionally, the collapse of Carlos Carsí's workshop during Fallas week also contributed to the reduced supply.
The search for guaranteed artists has been complex, as many are reluctant to participate in this category due to the immense level of demand and the economic uncertainty it entails. However, three key issues have been resolved to complete the list.
Exposición was the first to make a move, bringing back Toni Pérez, an artist who alternates his presence in the category. Meanwhile, Plaza del Pilar opted for Pere Baenas, who returns to the Special Section after a period of absence. Finally, Cuba-Literato Azorín was the quickest to announce its new workshop, SacabutxArt, the only debutant in the category.
The remaining commissions have opted for continuity with their artists. Almirante Cadarso renews with Paco Giner, who showed significant improvement. Other renewals include Convento Jerusalén with David Sánchez Llongo, l'Antiga de Campanar with Josué Beitia (also signed for 2028), Na Jordana with Mario Gual, and Sueca-Literato Azorín with Pedro Santaeulalia. This trend of ensuring continuity has been a constant in the Special Section for years.
