The València City Council has commenced repair and improvement works on the Assut de l'Or Bridge, a key infrastructure crossing the Turia Garden near the City of Arts and Sciences. The primary objective is to enhance the structure's safety and extend its lifespan. For a period of four months, night traffic on the bridge will be suspended between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, the hours during which the work will be carried out. Daytime traffic, however, will remain open as usual.
The Mayoress of València, Mª José Catalá, accompanied by the Councilor for Urban Planning, Juan Giner, visited the site. Catalá emphasized that it is "one of the most emblematic, most significant bridges in the city" and highlighted the importance of an investment of 746,000 euros. The works, scheduled to last 110 days, are concentrated during nighttime hours to minimize disruption to traffic.
The intervention includes a comprehensive analysis of the bridge's condition, the removal of rusted elements, and a complete repainting. "It is fundamental for us to monitor and maintain these emblematic city works, which have not been done for many, many years," stated the mayoress. A prior municipal inspection had identified issues of corrosion, cracks, and soft spots.
Furthermore, the structure's beaconing will be adapted to comply with the regulations of the State Air Safety Agency (AESA), given its height exceeding one hundred meters. The awarded company, Pavasal, will carry out the project for 746,269 euros (VAT included), which includes repairing cracks, replacing containment elements, and improving internal access.
A team of climbers is working at a height of 110 meters to treat the retention cables, including mechanical grinding, surface preparation of the metal, and application of protective layers. Concurrently, operators are treating the 43-meter-high pylon with a lifting platform, applying the first coat of primer. In the upper sections, a crane with a 90-meter platform is being used to consolidate the protective barrier. Subsequent work will involve applying a second primer coat.
