The Second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, speaking in Málaga on May Day, called for advancing labor rights and announced the reintroduction of the rent decree in Congress.

During the Labor Day demonstration, the Vice President stated that «Spain is built by working people» and assured that there would be «no step back» in improving labor conditions. She highlighted that the country is made by workers, in contrast to those who «are filling their hands with profits and refusing to share them».

"Málaga knows well what exploitation is."

The Minister focused on Málaga, describing it as the «capital of tourism» and a place that «knows well what exploitation is» and where labor conditions can still improve. She insisted on the need for «more labor rights, many more» for Spain.
Among the proposals, she defended the reduction of the working day and the reinforcement of time registration. She denounced that in Spain, «two and a half million overtime hours are not paid», a situation she considers irregular and contrary to the law. She stressed that time registration is «the key, the guarantee for working people to work less and, above all, for us to raise wages».
Furthermore, she recalled the increase in the interprofessional minimum wage, which she quantified at 66%, and urged employers to «share profits and raise wages» in collective bargaining. She pointed out that Spain maintains a «negative differential of 25% in wages compared to Europe» and summarized her objective: «We want better and higher wages».
The Minister also referred to the intern statute, currently being processed in Congress, and assured that the Government would work to push it forward, denouncing the precariousness affecting «false interns». She also appealed to the opposition regarding the future occupational risk prevention law, in a country where, she lamented, «two workers die every day» in their workplaces.
Housing was another central point of her speech. She warned that in Málaga capital, the square meter of housing reaches 3,720 euros, a «record figure», and criticized vulture funds. She announced that the Government would reintroduce the rent decree that was rejected, arguing that it allowed «thousands and thousands of humble working people» to revalue their rental contracts with a 2% limit.
