This laboratory, which will operate under the United Nations Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (ODET), aims to intensify the global debate on Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance. Its establishment seeks to foster strong cooperation among governments, businesses, the scientific community, and civil society.
The Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, highlighted the significance of this designation, stating that Valencia will become the global epicenter for the debate on AI governance. She emphasized that the city will serve as an inspiration for the United Nations to consolidate democratic rules and establish reliable standards for this fourth industrial revolution.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, María González Veracruz, affirmed the Spanish Government's leading role in the AI governance debate in Europe. She stressed the necessity of global regulation to ensure balanced rules of the game worldwide.
The Secretary of State noted that Spain was one of the two co-facilitating countries in the recent process of creating the Scientific Panel and the Global AI Dialogue at the UN, viewing this laboratory as a further advancement in that direction. The goal is to accelerate the industrial and economic application of the Global Digital Compact agreements to achieve safe and reliable AI among countries.
