València's municipal libraries are transforming into active cultural centers to celebrate Book Day 2026, with a diverse program that promotes reading and citizen participation.

The program, mainly concentrated between Wednesday, April 22 and Thursday, April 23, extends through different city neighborhoods with proposals for all audiences. These activities combine children's initiatives, solidarity actions, and new formats for gathering around books.
During these days, municipal libraries reinforce their role as cultural proximity spaces. Their agenda goes beyond book lending to become a neighborhood meeting point, learning center, and social revitalization hub.
Children will have a specific program of storytelling, workshops, and reading animation activities. These will take place in various municipal libraries on different dates, including oral narration sessions and educational proposals aimed at fostering reading habits among the youngest.
The solidarity second-hand book markets will be one of the most prominent features of the program. They will allow visitors to acquire copies and collaborate with different NGOs through this cultural and solidarity initiative. These markets will be available on Wednesday, April 22 at the Patraix – Azorín Library, the Tres Forques – Lluís Fullana i Mira Library, and the Marxalenes – Joanot Martorell Library, all starting at 09:00 AM. On Thursday, April 23, they can be found at the Cabanyal – Canyamelar – Casa de la Reina Library and the Mercado Central de València, also starting at 09:00 AM.
The program also includes what are called reading parties, a proposal that invites shared reading in the same space, where each person enjoys their own book in a quiet and collective environment. The three scheduled sessions are distributed between the Patraix – Azorín Library (Wednesday, April 22 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM), the Trinitat – Vivers Library (Thursday, April 23 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM), and the Mercado Central de València (Thursday, April 23 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM).
The Department of Cultural Action and Cultural Resources of the València City Council emphasizes that this special program reinforces the role of municipal libraries as open cultural spaces, going beyond book lending to consolidate themselves as meeting points, permanent learning centers, and social revitalization hubs in the city's neighborhoods.
