The complaint, filed by a citizen, indicates that a councilor for Major Projects did not include a meeting held on September 13, 2023, in Madrid in his public agenda. This meeting was reportedly with a lawyer linked to the board of directors of Valencia CF SAD.
According to the document, the meeting addressed the future urban development agreement between the city council and the club's ownership, controlled by the company Meriton. The complainant argues that such meetings must be made public, in accordance with regional transparency legislation and the municipal Open Government regulation, which mandates the publication of public officials' institutional agendas.
“"This conduct could constitute a serious breach of active publicity obligations."
The complaint also criticizes that the councilor not only omitted the meeting from the official portal but also avoided identifying his interlocutor in a subsequent interview, despite acknowledging the encounter. It is pointed out that holding conversations with representatives linked to the promoter of the urban development agreement could be irregular and imply significant economic benefits.
Now, the Valencian Transparency Council will have to analyze the facts and determine whether the City Council has violated Law 1/2022 on Transparency and Good Governance of the Valencian Community, which requires public administrations to guarantee access to information and accountability.
