The new signage, based on the General Traffic Regulations, grants priority to pedestrians and sets a maximum speed of 20 km/h. Parking is restricted to designated areas, and games or sports are prohibited on the street, distinguishing it from the former residential zones.
In Ciutat Vella, new coexistence zones have been established in several key streets, including intersections like Alejandra Soler with Corona, Na Jordana with Guillem de Castro, and Portal Nou with Blanqueria, among others. New areas have also been defined in Campanar, such as Mossén Rausell street and Benidorm street, with a 20 km/h speed limit.
These zones have been prioritized on single-platform streets, considered most suitable due to their morphology. The plan also includes designating parallel parking on Molí de la Marquesa street and motorcycle parking on Mestre Bagant street, following observations of mass motorcycle parking in the area.
The amendment to the General Traffic Regulations, effective July 2025, updates the official traffic sign catalogue to adapt to social, technological, and mobility changes. It introduces new signs for personal mobility vehicles and enhances the visibility and coherence of the visual language.
Constata el incumplimiento sistemático
From Compromís, councilor Giuseppe Grezzi criticized the signage change being presented as an improvement, arguing that it 'confirms the systematic non-compliance with pedestrian protection' by the local government of PP and Vox. Grezzi points out that streets like Serrans or Plaça dels Furs show a disregard for parking prohibitions, even involving police.
The councilor urged Mayor María José Catalá to instruct the Mobility Councilor, Jesús Carbonell, to replace 'propaganda with action,' citing what he describes as 'lack of control over traffic and infractions' during his term.
