The Department of Commerce and Markets has awarded the contract for the technical project that will enable the comprehensive renovation of the basement of the Benicalap Municipal Market, a key action for the economic and social revitalization of the neighborhood.

This action is considered of great importance, as municipal markets are essential infrastructures for neighborhoods. The València City Council is working to ensure they have modern, efficient facilities adapted to the current needs of citizens.
The Benicalap Market consists of a sales floor on the ground floor, offices on the first floor, and a basement where common services such as warehouses, cold rooms, meters, parking areas, loading and unloading, and restrooms for authorized vendors are located.

"This floor presents various deficiencies derived from the passage of time and the obsolescence of some facilities, which makes a comprehensive intervention necessary."

The renovation project will significantly improve the functional, technical, and safety conditions of the basement, optimizing space utilization and contributing to the overall good functioning of the market. The modernization of these facilities reinforces the municipal commitment to more sustainable, competitive municipal markets serving the public.
Planned improvements include updating finishes and coatings, renovating deteriorated metal carpentry, and a specific intervention in the restroom area, where existing sanitary fixtures and materials will be replaced. Additionally, the renovation of electrical and lighting installations is foreseen, incorporating more energy-efficient solutions adapted to current regulations.
According to the report from the Technical Office of the Commerce and Markets Service, this action is also necessary to adapt the spaces after recent works to implement Social Services offices in the building, thereby improving the efficiency in the use of available surface area.
