The Catholic University of Valencia (UCV) is organizing the XI International Congress of Regional History, focusing on the importance of image for local identity and cultural heritage.

Dr. José Mª Tormos, Vice-Rector for Research at UCV, and Francisco Cardells, the congress director, have highlighted the novelties of this edition. According to Cardells, this meeting represents an opening towards congresses that incorporate current topics and explore disciplines beyond traditional historical erudition.

"This meeting is the opening towards congresses where current topics and exploration into disciplines beyond historical erudition are increasingly welcome."

Francisco Cardells · Congress Director
The importance of image in local and regional identities is one of the central themes. Cardells emphasizes that identities are based on tradition, which is culture over time, and their persistence is due to the image engraved in our memory. He warns that the distortion and standardization of image can destroy the truth of people and their regions, citing the importance of the Micalet de la Seu, the Central Market, or the orange groves for Valencia's identity.
The session on Thursday, April 23, 2026, will include various activities. At nine o'clock, Francisco Glicerio Conde Mora will deliver the conference «Feared and Admired: Image of the Soldiers of the Tercios during Hegemony in Europe. 16th and 17th Centuries». Subsequently, at nine forty-five, a round table discussion «Image: manifestation of faith» will be held, moderated by a representative from the Valencia City Council, with the participation of figures such as José Jerónimo, prior of the Semana Santa Marinera de Valencia, and Manolo Camarasa.
At eleven o'clock, the round table «Image as a brand and identity heritage» will be moderated by José Salvador Murgui, official chronicler of Casinos, and will feature the participation of Fernando Giner, president of the Valencia CF Footballers Association, and Trini Montañana, mayor of Meliana. Finally, at twelve thirty, Dr. José María Tormos Muñoz will moderate the table «Application of imaging in the healthcare of the future», with the participation of Angel Alberich, founder and CEO of Quibim.
The congress will conclude with the closing ceremony and the awarding of accolades to loyal collaborators such as Maurizio Veneta from Helados Véneta, Santiago Sanchis from the Cooperativa Santa Bárbara de Casinos, and Trini Montañana, mayor of Meliana, recognizing their contribution to the history of the Valencian regions.
