An immersive experience, previously presented at the United Nations headquarters in New York, now arrives in Valencia to showcase an unseen facet of Frida Kahlo. Through original handwritten letters and unpublished photographs, the public can learn about the artist's dreams, fears, and achievements, as explained by Mairén Muñoz, actress and artistic director.
Actors and actresses guide visitors through Kahlo's different life stages, blending historical narrative with stage performance. The production uses poetic, visual, and sound elements to recreate significant moments of her journey, allowing the audience to connect with her emotions, challenges, and creative processes from a fresh perspective.
The exhibition features an exclusive collection of letters addressed to prominent figures of the era and unpublished images that reveal lesser-known aspects of the artist's life, her family environment, and the influences that shaped her career. The experience culminates with an audiovisual documentary delving into the life of the woman who transformed pain into art, and whose figure continues to inspire millions worldwide.
The project also emphasizes gender equality and female empowerment through culture, aligning with the values promoted by UN Women. Muñoz highlighted Kahlo's significance as a role model: "She worked when she couldn't, wore trousers at a time when it was very complicated in Mexico, married whom she wanted... And above all, she dreamed of being a painter."
