The consolidation and restoration works on the roof of the paellero at the Casa Museu Benlliure have concluded. This intervention, costing 12,357.05 euros (VAT included), is part of the municipal plan to recover the ornamental elements of the courtyard of this museum space, located in the former family home of the Valencian painter José Benlliure.
According to the Councilor for Cultural Action, Heritage, and Cultural Resources, José Luis Moreno, the work was carried out to deeply repair this element, situated on one side of the protected garden next to the artist's studio, thus ensuring its structural stability and the preservation of its original appearance. The paellero, dated between the late sixties and early seventies, was renovated between 1979 and 1982.
The detected damage was mainly due to a lack of maintenance and the accumulation of pine needles and other plant debris, which led to the obstruction of the tile joints, water leaks, and progressive deterioration of the supporting structure. The most appropriate solution was the complete removal of the roof and its integral reconstruction, replacing the damaged pieces with new ones while preserving the original configuration and appearance at all times.
The work followed criteria of minimal intervention and respect for heritage values. Elements in good condition were recovered, the deteriorated wooden frame was removed, and a new treated wooden structure and ceramic base were installed. The new tiles, handcrafted by specialized master artisans, were selected for their material, formal, dimensional, and chromatic compatibility with the historic ones, featuring three differentiated shades to maintain the characteristic tonal richness.
The intervention has restored the structural stability, watertightness, and constructive functionality of the roof. Councilor José Luis Moreno highlighted that the traceability of the materials has been ensured, facilitating future maintenance. Additionally, a preventive maintenance plan has been established, including annual inspections, quarterly cleanings, and extraordinary reviews after adverse weather events.
Recently, the City Council also restored the panel Allegory of the Eucharist with Saint Paschal Baylon and Saint Philip Neri and has awarded the contract for the rehabilitation project of the facades of the Casa Museo José Benlliure, with a budget of 18,029 euros. These interventions reaffirm the municipal commitment to preserving this space, which recreates the atmosphere of the home of an important Valencian artistic family.
