The judge investigating the management of the 2024 cold drop has received a document from Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) stating that the company did not receive any specific instructions from the Ministry of Emergencies for the València Sud command center. This point is crucial in the railway network, and its management during the extreme weather event is under investigation.
The managing director of FGV, in the document sent to the Catarroja court, asserts that only general meteorological warnings were received, similar to those routinely issued to all public bodies. However, there were no concrete directives on how to act in the face of the escalating risk, a fact that has become a central element in the judicial inquiry.
This document is incorporated into the case seeking to clarify the institutional response to the catastrophe, which caused 230 deaths. The line of investigation focuses on the possible lack of coordination between administrations and services during the critical hours. Reports submitted so far suggest that the València Sud complex was particularly vulnerable.
A union document reveals that, around 7:40 PM, security personnel detected a large mass of water rapidly advancing towards the facilities. They had just enough time to abandon the accesses and take refuge in elevated areas. Inside the premises, nearly a hundred users and some workers were trapped after the last journeys of the day, having to spend the night there until they were evacuated the next day. By around 8:00 PM, the flood had completely devastated the railway complex.
These data highlight that the València Sud center was one of the critical points of the day and demonstrate the lack of specific operational guidance in a rapidly deteriorating situation. The judge seeks to clarify why an essential node of the system operated without concrete directives in that context. Furthermore, the court has decided to summon new witnesses, including the driver of the former Minister of Justice and Interior, as their previous statements have been deemed incomplete or evasive.
