The Dansa València festival has opened the call for Impuls a la Dansa 2026, a program aimed at creators and dance companies from the Valencian Community. The initiative's purpose is to support research, creation, mediation, and exhibition processes in contemporary dance, and it is developed in collaboration with public municipal cultural spaces.
Ten Valencian municipalities and cultural spaces are participating in the 2026 edition: Aielo de Malferit, Alboraia, Almassora, Benicàssim, Dénia, El Genovés, Picassent, Puçol, the Universitat Jaume I-Paranimf of Castelló de la Plana, and La Vila Joiosa. Each will host an artistic project in a specific residency modality, as detailed by the Valencian Institute of Culture (IVC).
The proposal aims to "decentralize artistic offerings, strengthen the Valencian professional sector, and bring dance closer to citizens from an inclusive, participatory, and proximity perspective," highlight the organizers. Interested professionals and entities can submit their applications until July 8, indicating up to a maximum of three residency options in order of preference.
Key objectives of Impuls a la Dansa include supporting the creation and consolidation of contemporary choreographic projects, boosting the visibility of Valencian talent in the movement arts, and fostering sustainable links between artists, cultural agents, and audiences. It also promotes democratic access to dance in different territories and encourages cultural mediation processes from a critical, diverse, and community-based perspective.
The call includes four types of artistic residencies based on project needs. The Technical Stay modality, lasting at least one week, allows rehearsal on an equipped stage with technical support and concludes with an open rehearsal or public showing. The Creation Stay, lasting at least two weeks, is for developing choreographic processes in suitable municipal spaces and includes a public presentation or open session at the end. The Mediation modality, lasting two or more weeks, involves working with a local group for educational, social, or intergenerational purposes, concluding with a community presentation or feedback session. Finally, the Creation + Mediation Stay combines artistic creation with a participatory process linked to the local community, integrating both components into the same proposal.
Complete information about the call for applications is available on the website of the Valencian Institute of Culture.
