The Education Section of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) has called on the educational community to support an indefinite teacher strike set to begin on Monday, May 11, in the Comunitat Valenciana.

In a statement, the union emphasized that, after months of struggle and various mobilizations, including demonstrations in major cities and previous strikes, this new phase of protest is now commencing. Prior strikes include one on May 23, 2024, against the Education Freedom Law and budget cuts, another on December 11, 2025, for the recovery of teachers' purchasing power and improved school infrastructure, and a strike on March 31 of this year.
The anarcho-syndicalist central CGT will actively participate in the strike to demand reduced student-teacher ratios, real and effective inclusion, more material and personnel resources to address diversity, and the defense of Valencian against administrative attacks. They also oppose dual vocational training that commercializes education and call for dignified and climate-controlled infrastructures, in addition to less bureaucracy.
Among their demands, the union also includes the removal of religion from public education, the deprivatization and de-privatization of education, the stabilization of interim teachers, and the internalization of cleaning services, educational support, monitors, and school canteens. Furthermore, they seek recognition and remuneration for tutoring, a salary increase to recover purchasing power, salary equalization in Vocational Training (FP), and quick and efficient substitute staff for those on leave.

"We have suffered cuts for many months. The unions at the technical table already halted mobilizations in a context of a change in the Ministry, but it has already shown us the scarce commitment they have to public education and their limited willingness to negotiate. With these premises, we must use the most powerful tool we have as a working class: an indefinite strike until our demands are negotiated."

The CGT is therefore calling on educational staff to support the indefinite strike, which is expected to paralyze the vast majority of educational centers in the País Valencià.
