A 77-year-old cyclist, a resident of Valencia who was undertaking the Camino de Santiago, died this Tuesday after colliding with a car at an intersection controlled by a stop sign in Melgar de Yuso, in the province of Palencia.
As detailed by the government's sub-delegation in Palencia, the collision occurred between the car, driven by a 76-year-old woman, and the cyclist. Initial hypotheses suggest a possible failure by the cyclist to yield right of way at the intersection, although the Civil Guard is continuing to investigate the exact causes and compile the relevant reports.
The Castilla y León Emergency Service received the alert about the collision and dispatched medical resources, including a medicalized helicopter, a medical team, and a Basic Life Support ambulance. Despite their efforts, the medical personnel at the scene could only confirm the cyclist's death.
