Agents of the Civil Guard have successfully carried out an operation against illegal marijuana cultivation in the town of Sax, located in the Alt Vinalopó region. The police action culminated in the arrest of two individuals, a 62-year-old father and his 31-year-old son, both without prior criminal records.
During searches conducted in the implicated residences, officers confiscated a total of 476 marijuana plants, in addition to 600 grams of marijuana that was already vacuum-packed. A large machete and various materials used for weighing and packaging the drugs were also seized, evidencing the illicit activity.
The investigation began following several neighborhood complaints about power outages and voltage surges in a street in Sax. These anomalies led law enforcement to identify a dwelling with electricity consumption eight times higher than contracted, a clear indication of irregular activity.
With the support of the Citizen Security Unit of the Command (Usecic), the existence of a high temperature inside the dwelling was confirmed, a common factor in indoor marijuana plantations. Subsequent surveillance revealed that a second nearby property was being used for logistical tasks related to the plantation. Both homes were illegally connected to the electrical grid, causing the supply disruptions.
The detainees have been charged with a crime against public health and another for electricity fraud. Following their arrest, they have been released on provisional liberty pending trial. The judicial investigation of the case is being handled by the civil and instruction section of the Villena Court of Instance.
