The Department of Social Services of the Sagunto City Council, in collaboration with the Pueblo Unido Association, has organized this event, scheduled for Monday, April 15. The primary goal is to promote knowledge, coexistence, historical memory, and equality within the community.
Activities will commence at 5:30 PM at the Antiguo Sanatorio Civic Center in Puerto de Sagunto. The official inauguration will be led by the Mayor of Sagunto, Darío Moreno, and the Councilor for Social Services, Nuria Carbó.
Following the inauguration, there will be a screening of the documentary La Gran Redada, which explores one of the most challenging episodes in the history of the Romani people in Spain. The film's director, Pilar Távora, will be present to participate in an open discussion with the audience, encouraging reflection and dialogue on the subject.
“"This year we wanted to frame the activities of Romani Day within the program of the events of March 8."
The day will conclude with a performance by La Negri, a renowned flamenco artist. La Negri is celebrated as a pioneering Romani percussionist who breaks gender stereotypes. This performance will take place in the bar of the same Antiguo Sanatorio Civic Center.
This year's program places a special emphasis on the leadership of Romani women, recognizing their fundamental role and reaffirming the commitment to equality, feminism, and gender freedom as essential values for a diverse and inclusive society. Councilor Nuria Carbó expressed pride in including this event within the programming of the Department of Equality.
