The four BRAF units, promoted in 2024 by the provincial institution, are located in Caudiel, Zucaina, Vall d'Alba, and Xert. These brigades provide coverage throughout the territory for preventive silviculture work and as support for the fire department in consolidating and reviewing perimeters during forest fires.
“"From the Castellón Provincial Council, we are adding resources to reinforce the protection of the forest heritage of Spain's second most mountainous province."
The deputy of the Provincial Fire Consortium highlighted the important work of the BRAF in prevention and support for perimeter review and consolidation, which are considered key in the fight against fires. Each of the four brigades consists of a foreman and four specialist laborers, with a perfectly organized structure to carry out prevention and support actions.
Among the main functions of these brigades are the development of forest fire prevention work, including silviculture and preventive surveillance. They are also responsible for reinforcing the cleaning and conditioning of urban-forest interface areas. Furthermore, their functions include intervention as a complementary service in other emergencies, with special mention to forest fire extinguishing, where they act to review the perimeter and finish off the fire.
