The town of Montanejos will hold the official Blue Flag hoisting ceremony for Fuente de los Baños on June 30th. The event will place special emphasis on accessibility and inclusion, with the participation of users from DACEM (Association for Acquired Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, and other neurological disabilities).
This year, the honor of raising the flag will fall to Salvador Torregrosa, a resident of Montanejos and DACEM user. This gesture symbolizes the community's commitment to ensuring its main natural resource, Fuente de los Baños, can be enjoyed by everyone. The ceremony will be attended by users from DACEM centers in Montanejos and Segorbe, with whom the town hall maintains a close collaborative relationship.
As a result of this collaboration, a special amphibious chair and other resources have been incorporated this year to facilitate access to Fuente de los Baños for individuals with reduced mobility and other needs. The event will also feature a special live broadcast from the site by Cope radio.
The mayor of Montanejos, Miguel Sandalinas, highlighted that the Blue Flag not only recognizes the quality of the environment but also the effort to make Fuente de los Baños an increasingly accessible and inclusive space. "That DACEM hoists the flag this year is the best way to represent that commitment and to make visible that nature should be accessible to all," he stated.
The cooperation between the Montanejos Town Hall and Dacem has led to initiatives such as the installation of an accessible walkway, the aforementioned amphibious chair, and specific bathing crutches. These facilities aim to enable people with reduced mobility to enjoy the thermal waters with greater autonomy and safety.
Fuente de los Baños has once again retained its Blue Flag this year, a distinction it first received in 2025, becoming the first river bathing area in Spain to achieve this recognition. The award signifies excellence in water quality, safety, services, environmental management, and accessibility, endorsing the town council's work and consolidating the site as a benchmark for sustainable and accessible inland tourism.
