The city of Alcoy is preparing for its Moors and Christians festivals with an enhanced security plan. The City Council has established a series of protocols to ensure the peace of mind of all attendees, from participants to the thousands of spectators who will fill the streets this weekend.
Among the new measures, the Local Police will supervise breathalyzer tests for riders and float drivers, both at the entrances and during the 'entradetes' (pre-parade gatherings). The objective is to ensure that individuals guiding animals or large vehicles are in optimal condition, preventing any risks.
“"Ensuring the tranquility of all the people who make the festival possible and the people who come out to enjoy it is an absolute priority; these preventive measures allow us to experience Alcoy's big days with maximum safety."
In addition to human safety, the council emphasizes animal welfare. The public has been reminded of the importance of respecting the space of horses and other animals participating in the festival, avoiding invading the route, touching them, or performing any actions that could disturb them and jeopardize the normal development of the event.
Regarding the floats, all those that are part of the 'escuadras' (squads) or 'cargos' (official positions) must present a technical report drafted by an engineer. This document certifies the structural safety of each vehicle and determines its maximum permitted capacity. Without this report and the corresponding insurance, the Associació de Sant Jordi, which organizes the festivals, will not authorize their participation.
Finally, the Local Police will conduct prior inspections of the brake and locking systems of the floats. They will also collaborate with the Civil Guard in the access control and traffic regulation until reaching El Partidor, to ensure an orderly and safe flow during the parades.
