The investigation began following the woman's report, in which she claimed to have suffered a snatching on a public street. According to her initial version, a man pushed her from behind and snatched her handbag before fleeing quickly.
The officers in charge of the case carried out various procedures that allowed them to verify that the events had not occurred as reported. The investigation concluded that the violent robbery had not taken place.

The woman herself admitted that she had not suffered a violent assault, but that her handbag had been stolen due to carelessness, and that she had decided to file a report different from what actually happened.

Given this evidence, the police re-contacted the complainant, who finally admitted that she had incorrectly recounted the events. Following this confession, she was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of simulating a crime. The proceedings have been forwarded to the Investigating Court of Guard of Alicante.
The National Police reminds the public that reporting events that have not occurred constitutes a typified crime, and warns that these types of situations are investigated by specialized units of the Judicial Police.
