Unemployment in Alicante Falls in April, Registers Largest Drop in Valencian Community

Alicante province experienced a significant decrease in unemployment in April, with 1,336 fewer people on the lists, primarily driven by the services sector.

Alicante province recorded a notable reduction in unemployment in April, with 1,336 fewer people on the lists, positioning it as the area with the largest drop in the Valencian Community.

This decrease represents a 1.14% reduction compared to the previous month, bringing the total number of unemployed people to 115,728. The reduction in Alicante surpasses that of Valencia, which registered 918 fewer unemployed individuals, and Castellón, with a decrease of 158 people.
Compared to the previous year, Alicante has 6,965 fewer unemployed people, representing a 5.68% reduction. This provincial data slightly improves the annual decline of the autonomous community as a whole, where unemployment fell by 5.48%.

The services sector has been the main driver of this improvement, concentrating the majority of the unemployment reduction in Alicante province.

The drop in unemployment in Alicante was clearly concentrated in the Services sector, with 1,238 fewer unemployed people in April. A decrease was also observed in Industry, with 128 fewer unemployed; in Agriculture, with 86 fewer; and in Construction, with a reduction of 75 people. The only increase occurred among the group without previous employment, which added 191 more people registered in employment offices.
By sector, Services continues to concentrate the majority of unemployment in the province, with 80,109 unemployed people. This is followed by Industry, with 12,867; the group without previous employment, with 10,218; Construction, with 9,291; and Agriculture, with 3,243. Female unemployment remains predominant, with 70,327 unemployed women compared to 45,401 men. Additionally, there are 6,551 people under 25 years old who are unemployed.
