The Association of Sommeliers of the Province of Alicante (ASPA), together with the Regulatory Council DOP Alicante, organized the ASPA Awards ceremony in Alicante. The event, which had the collaboration of various institutions, brought together more than 25 wineries from the province.
A jury composed of 20 judges from ASPA selected the best wines in six categories: white, red, rosé, sweet, sparkling, and Fondillón. The president of ASPA, Jose Diego Ortega, highlighted the high standard of the wines and participating professionals.
“"We are proud of the quality of our wines and the judges who participated in this competition."
During the event, a tribute was paid to Roberto Brotons, from the El Culebrón winery in Pinoso, for his long career and the quality of his wines and Fondillones, maintained for three generations.
In the red wine category, the 'best DOP Alicante Wine' award went to the 2020 vintage of “Mira Salinas” from the Sierra Salinas winery (part of the MW Wines group), which received the 'Gran Oro' (Grand Gold).
