FCC Medio Ambiente has enhanced sustainability through social media, establishing a community of 43,235 followers across 23 active profiles in the Alicante - La Mancha delegation since January 2021.

FCC Medio Ambiente is promoting sustainability at all levels, including a digital strategy via social media. Since January 2021, 23 profiles have been created, fostering a community of 43,235 followers within the Alicante - La Mancha delegation. These profiles replicate a common communication and awareness model, adapted to each municipality and service.
The primary objectives of this implementation focus on three pillars: citizen awareness, detailed service information, and active citizen interaction. The digital presence extends to locations such as Alicante, Elche, Benidorm, Campello, Gandía, Polop, Callosa d’en Sarrià, Castalla, La Roda, Villarrobledo, Albacete, Crevillent, Sant Joan d'Alacant, and the Les Marines treatment plant.
In terms of awareness, social media serves as an accessible environmental education tool. Through explanatory videos, real-life examples, and specific campaigns, tips, facts, and best practices are disseminated, highlighting the importance of proper waste management and the impact of small daily actions. This approach aims to actively involve citizens in environmental care.
Regarding service information, the strategy emphasizes proximity and transparency. Posts showcase the daily work, including night-time street cleaning, public space maintenance, post-rain event responses, and specific disinfection efforts. This type of content helps make an essential, often overlooked, service visible.
Furthermore, user interaction is a key element. Social media acts as a direct channel for addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and gathering suggestions. Prompt responses, often accompanied by visual evidence of actions taken, strengthen trust and closeness with the public.
The progressive rollout of new accounts as contracts are awarded allows for the transfer of communication best practices between cities, maintaining global consistency while respecting local particularities. FCC Medio Ambiente's use of social media demonstrates how digital communication effectively contributes to urban sustainability by making services visible, fostering responsible habits, and strengthening the bond between citizens and their environment.
