This operation will focus on speeding on interurban roads and in sections considered to be of higher risk, with the main objective of reducing road accidents in the province. The Government sub-delegate in Alicante, Manuel Pineda, has highlighted the importance of this initiative.
“"Speed continues to be one of the most determining factors in fatal accidents."
Inadequate or excessive speed was present in 21% of fatal accidents recorded on interurban roads in the province of Alicante during 2025, specifically in 8 out of 38 incidents. In the first quarter of 2026, this factor was involved in 18% of fatal accidents on these types of roads, with 2 cases out of a total of 11.
“"Every kilometer per hour counts and can make the difference between life and death. Reducing speed not only prevents accidents but also drastically reduces their consequences."
During the last speed control campaign, carried out in August 2025 in the province of Alicante, 21,237 vehicles were checked, of which 1,261 were reported, representing 5.94%. The Traffic Law provides for the loss of between two and six points for infractions related to speeding. In 2025, 30,855 drivers were sanctioned in the province, with 33,393 complaints processed and 85,360 points deducted. In the first quarter of 2026, speeding sanctions resulting in point deductions represented 65% of all complaints involving deductions, with 4,718 out of a total of 7,302.
The DGT insists on driver responsibility, reminding that excessive speed increases the risk of accidents and aggravates their consequences. The sub-delegate has appealed to drivers' responsibility to respect established limits, emphasizing that behind every statistic there are human lives.
