The mobilization, which will involve a traffic cut between Mexico Street and Casa Mediterráneo, will be held under the slogan “Solutions Now: For an Accessible and Dignified Parque del Mar”. Residents denounce that these lands have been “abandoned for more than 16 years” and that administrations are not giving them the necessary attention.
The neighborhood entity demands the immediate signing of an agreement between the Alicante City Council and the Ministry of Transport to end this situation. According to the association, the lands present a “third-world and unsanitary” image at the southern access to the city, with the presence of shantytowns, garbage, weeds, and pests.
“"Parque del Mar has been an inaccessible “island” for more than three decades, which is why we demand dignified access and urgent cleaning and security measures."
The transfer of these lands would allow for a complete transformation of Alicante's southern access, with the creation of a large coastal park, improved mobility in the area, and the generation of a public recreational space. Furthermore, they believe it would significantly improve the urban image in a strategic area of the city.
Among the main demands of the association are the immediate signing of the agreement for the disaffection of disused railway lands, urgent cleaning and security reinforcement, and the execution of access points to Parque del Mar, which currently functions as an isolated and difficult-to-access space.
