The Villena City Council, through Mayor Fulgencio Cerdán, officially confirmed on Thursday the appointment of Bertino Ponce de León Díez as the new Chief Superintendent of the Local Police. The decree signed by the mayor highlights the new head's deep knowledge of the city and the police service's operations, gained from nearly two decades dedicated to local security.
Ponce de León has spent his entire career in the municipality, rising from the most basic ranks to the highest position in the force. The Councilor for Local Police, Sergio Palao, conveyed the municipal corporation's support for initiatives to improve the service, recalling the essential role of officers who work 24 hours a day and respond to any emergency.
“"It is a great honor and a responsibility of great importance"
The new Chief Superintendent praised the professionalism of the staff and thanked institutional support for continuing to drive adaptations that meet the city's current needs. With 18 years of experience, 17 of which have been in Villena, Ponce de León has held command responsibilities since 2021.
Academically, Ponce de León holds a Degree in Public Security and a Master's in Crime Analysis and Prevention from the Miguel Hernández University. He also has proficiency in Spanish, English, and French, complementing his professional profile as head of the Villena Local Police.
