As revealed this Wednesday in court, the official told the territorial director that he was sorry and that he had "messed up," after it emerged that one of the allocated homes had gone to his romantic partner. The lawyer for the popular prosecution, Emilio García Ontiveros, explained that the full phrase was: "I'm sorry, I messed up and I will assume all responsibility."
I'm sorry, I messed up and I will assume all responsibility.
This confession occurred when the territorial director of Housing in Alicante, Juan Manuel Galbis, asked him about the presence of his partner's name among the 140 beneficiaries of public protection housing. Galbis testified this Wednesday as a witness before the magistrate of the court investigating the allocations of the Les Naus development.
Alongside him, the head of the Territorial Housing Service of Alicante, Concepción Morillas, and the deputy territorial secretary of the same department, Vicente Caturla, also appeared. According to García Ontiveros, the investigated official was solely responsible for all files related to these homes, having self-assigned this function to exclusively process and approve applications.
The popular prosecution has also announced that it will request his testimony to directly explain what happened. For now, no date has been set for that appearance. The worker was disciplined by the Ministry of Housing, although he has since been reinstated to his position.
The case will continue on April 24, when five other officials from the territorial housing delegation who participated in the review of the files once the alleged irregularities became known are scheduled to testify. The case has caused a strong political upheaval in the Alicante City Council, with several resignations and officials removed or disciplined.
