The Provincial Council, the Valencian Government (Generalitat Valenciana), the Alicante City Council, and the University of Alicante (UA) are celebrating International Archives Week throughout June with a diverse program of activities.

The Group of Archives of Alicante, a professional network working collaboratively since 2025 to protect and enhance documentary heritage, has organized several events. The aim is to bring the documentary wealth held by these four institutions closer to the public, recognizing it as a fundamental pillar of transparency and collective memory.
Among the most notable activities is the XI Meeting of Archivists of the Province of Alicante, scheduled for Thursday, June 11th, at Torre Ansaldo in Sant Joan d’Alacant. This meeting will gather nearly a hundred municipal technicians and has become a key forum for knowledge exchange and collaboration among municipalities.
The Provincial Council will also make the digitized consultation of the Official Provincial Gazette (BOP) available to the public. Meanwhile, the Provincial Historical Archive of Alicante (under the Generalitat) will inaugurate the exhibition “Rafael Altamira, from Alicante to the world. The legacy of a humanist” and will host open house days with guided tours.
The Alicante City Council is presenting the exhibition “The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha in the Hogueras of San Juan” and will also organize guided tours of its Municipal Archive. The Councilor for Culture, Nayma Beldjilali, emphasized the importance of archives as "a treasure, the place where we safeguard the memory of all Alicantinians."
Completing the calendar, the General Archive of the University of Alicante will host the exhibition “The Civil War in the photographic collection of the Keystone Agency” from June 9th to 22nd. The Secretary-General of the UA, Josep Ochoa, highlighted the invaluable documentary collection of the university and announced that the UA will assume the coordination of the Conference of Spanish University Archives (CAU).
The Deputy for Documentary Management, David Aracil, reviewed the first year of the Group of Archives of Alicante, highlighting initiatives such as the educational itineraries ‘Know the history and memory of Alicante’ and the I Conference on Alicantinian Documentary Heritage. A visit to the IVCRI to learn about the recovery of heritage affected by the DANA flood and the X Meeting of Archives of the Province held last year were also mentioned.
The agreement signed in June 2025 by the four institutions has enabled the optimization of efforts in safeguarding and disseminating historical heritage. The Director General of Culture of the GVA, Ignacio Prieto, praised this cooperation as "an example that should serve as a benchmark not only in the province but throughout the country."
Finally, it was announced that the II Conference on Alicantinian Documentary Heritage is planned for November 2026, another joint initiative to bring the most relevant historical collections from the province's archives to the public.
