The Central Market of Alicante will host on May 16 a new edition of the Central Mercat Fest, a cultural event aimed at revitalizing local trade with music, gastronomy, and activities for the whole family.
The Councillor for Markets, along with the president of the Municipal Markets Traders Association, presented this Thursday the ninth edition of the festival. The goal is to invite citizens to enjoy the markets, get to know their stalls and the traders behind each business, celebrating together this festive day created to promote and showcase the municipal markets.
“
"For us, it is important to be able to celebrate the Mercat Fest, which is highly anticipated by both customers and traders and is held annually with great success. We started promoting it a few years ago, and we all organize it with enthusiasm. It is a celebration to which we invite with music, 'showcooking', and many activities for everyone."
The markets have evolved over the years, and the Alicante City Council has invested in their maintenance and restructuring. The Councillor for Markets highlighted that the markets are a reflection of a vibrant city that has been evolving, but at the same time maintains its roots and passes from generation to generation. Therefore, it is essential to care for them, respect them, and shop there. This festival serves to highlight their value and emphasize that the products sold are zero-kilometer, quality, and sustainable.
The annually celebrated festival offers a program for all ages, from 11 AM to 3 PM. It includes children's activities and workshops, live music and concerts, a spice workshop by Carmencita, product tastings from the stalls, and a 'showcooking' by Alicante Gastronómica Solidaria. The event will be enlivened by stilt walkers and jugglers, the traditional Facpyme 'paraeta' with gifts and raffles, and live jazz with Almaens Jazz Band. The day will conclude with a concert by the group Amenaza Verde in the square.

"It is not just a party; it is a moment to highlight those fresh products brought from the orchards and fish markets to the stalls and homes, which supply our restaurants and are also a hallmark of our gastronomy. In them, we find the best seasonal produce, and we must commit to buying local products in Alicante."
This revitalization day is organized by the Association of Concessionaire Traders of the Municipal Markets of Alicante together with the Department of Markets, Commerce, Hospitality, and Consumption of the Alicante City Council. It also has the collaboration of the Generalitat Valenciana and Facpyme.
