Since April 9, the Alicante Bullring has resumed its management under the direction of Eventos Mare Nostrum. This company, which has been linked to the operation of the municipal venue since 2013, either in alliance or alone, will continue to manage the programming for the next year, with the possibility of two additional one-year extensions.
The new phase maintains the essential condition of expanding the building's use beyond bullfighting events, including a variety of leisure and cultural activities such as concerts. The tender specifications required a minimum of ten annual events not related to bullfighting, a requirement that Eventos Mare Nostrum has exceeded with a proposal for up to fourteen leisure, gastronomic, or musical events, in addition to the Fogueres Bullfighting Fair and the José María Manzanares competition.
Among the already confirmed events are the concert by Antonio Orozco on July 25 and the Second Mediterranean Singer-Songwriter Festival on July 11, featuring artists such as Marta Soto, Diego Martín, and Mercedes Cañas. The re-edition of successful events like the wine fair Vinoteando, the gastronomic competition Pizza Combat, and the Christmas Afternoons is also planned, along with the Spanish Freestyle Motocross Championship 2026, to be held on May 16.
Concurrently, the governing team of the Popular Party (PP) is planning a new tender for the long-term operation of the building, which will include a comprehensive rehabilitation project. This contract will link the future manager to the necessary investment to repair structural deficiencies, such as humidity and filtration problems, and modernize the facilities. The incorporation of a removable roof system, similar to that of the Las Ventas Bullring in Madrid, is planned to allow for events requiring cover and to mitigate sound propagation.
Although the concession period and the exact investment have not been specified, the initial outlay of 11 million euros estimated for a retractable roof has been ruled out. The cost of the intervention is expected to be reduced by about half to update the property, completed in 1888 under the design of architect José Guardiola, and enhance its role as a multi-purpose space in line with the 'Alicante New Center' project.
