The Civil Guard, in collaboration with the Novelda Local Police, has arrested a 38-year-old man for stealing a semi-automatic defibrillator from a public sports facility in the municipality.

The device was stolen from a multi-purpose urban sports park, located on Ausiàs March street, where it was installed in a skate park area. According to the complaint filed by the Local Police, the events occurred on the afternoon of April 14, when an unknown person forced open the box containing the defibrillator, valued at approximately 3,000 euros.
Given the seriousness of the incident, not only due to the economic damage but also the risk it posed to user safety, as the equipment is intended to address emergencies such as cardiorespiratory arrest during sports practice, the Local Police requested citizen collaboration through their social networks to try and recover the device.

"The swift action and citizen collaboration have been key to the recovery of this vital equipment for public safety."

Following the complaint, agents from the Investigation Area of the Novelda Civil Guard immediately began efforts to clarify the facts. Within hours, they received a call from a woman who reported that a man had attempted to sell a defibrillator without documentation to a company in the healthcare sector.
Thanks to this information, agents were able to identify the alleged perpetrator, a resident of Monforte del Cid with no prior record. Subsequently, they went to his home, where they recovered the stolen defibrillator and proceeded with his arrest.
The device has since been returned to municipal officials, and its service has been re-established in the affected sports facilities. The detainee was released after the instruction of proceedings, which have been forwarded to the Civil and Instruction Section of the Novelda Court of First Instance.
