A digital initiative launched in September 2024, WATIF TV, has successfully connected with younger generations by offering an alternative and contextualized news model.

A journalist with a solid career has decided to launch WATIF TV, a digital media outlet that began in September 2024 with the goal of addressing current affairs in a different way. The main objective is to reach Gen Z and Millennial generations, who often feel saturated or disconnected from traditional media and their narrative style.
After just a year and a half, the platform has already achieved positive results and has a team of six people. Its future involves consolidation and growth, thanks to its ability to attract a young audience seeking a new way to get informed. According to a spokesperson,

"we speak their language. Of course, young people want to be informed, and when they discover there's another way, they join in."

This multiplatform portal broadcasts on YouTube on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 AM, and on Spotify from 10 AM. Additionally, it has a significant presence on Instagram, with 44.7 thousand followers. Its strategy is to

"hack the system, enter social networks to, through ideas, information, and context, try to gain a presence that currently competes against entertainment, against the Pombo, against sensationalism. It's very difficult, but we're there."

Among its objectives is to help the generation suffering from 'Fomo' (Fear of Missing Out), the fear of missing something or not being aware of what is happening in the world. The platform is committed to explaining the news and its relevance. One of the reasons for the disconnection with traditional media is the oversaturation of topics and lack of context, which leads to audience fatigue.
WATIF TV's audience data reveals that almost 50% of its followers are between 25 and 35 years old, and 80% are under 44 years old, confirming that its target audience is Gen Z and Millennials. The platform acknowledges that, although older people also consume information on social networks, it is important to know what and where to look.
An area where disconnection is most evident is politics. A company spokesperson is not optimistic about politicians' ability to communicate differently, as they believe they are too focused on internal party structures and detached from citizens' real concerns. Even many young politicians are so immersed in the "party bubble" that they have not reflected on how to communicate effectively.
Recently, Alcoy hosted a live recording of a WATIF TV program at the Rodes Urban Technology Park. The session, with over 200 registered attendees, focused on the topic 'You are the product: internet, data, and the future we can still choose'. The event combined dissemination, participation, and reflection on current issues such as internet data usage, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and smart cities. The initiative was organized within the framework of the Edint project and Ceod Alcoy, the Center of Excellence and Data Office located in Rodes.
